Health And Safety Policy
Health and Safety Policy for Cleaners Kensington
Cleaners Kensington is committed to providing professional cleaning services in a manner that protects the health, safety and welfare of our clients, employees, contractors and all others who may be affected by our work. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks and maintaining safe working practices across all locations where we operate.
Our objective is to prevent accidents, work-related ill health and unsafe situations by planning our work carefully, training our staff thoroughly and continually improving our procedures.
Management Responsibilities
The management of Cleaners Kensington has overall responsibility for ensuring that effective health and safety arrangements are in place. This includes providing suitable resources, setting clear standards, reviewing performance and promoting a positive safety culture throughout the company.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for implementing this policy in day-to-day operations. They must ensure that risk assessments are completed, safe systems of work are followed, and staff are equipped with appropriate training, information and equipment for each cleaning task.
Employee Responsibilities
Every employee of Cleaners Kensington has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. Staff are required to follow all health and safety procedures, use equipment correctly, wear personal protective equipment where needed and report hazards, incidents, near misses or defects without delay.
Employees must not interfere with or misuse any equipment, devices or systems provided for health and safety purposes. Failure to follow health and safety rules may be treated as a disciplinary matter.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
We identify and assess risks associated with our cleaning activities, including general domestic and commercial cleaning, end of tenancy cleaning, deep cleaning and specialist tasks. Risk assessments are used to determine appropriate control measures and safe working procedures, which are communicated to all relevant staff.
Before commencing work at a property, staff are instructed to consider site-specific hazards such as access issues, trip hazards, electrical safety, use of ladders or steps, and the presence of other contractors or occupants. Where necessary, work methods are adapted to control or avoid identified risks.
Chemical Safety and COSHH
Cleaners Kensington follows strict procedures for the safe selection, storage, handling and use of cleaning chemicals. We use products that are suitable for professional cleaning and, wherever possible, choose formulations that minimise health and environmental risks while still delivering effective results.
All staff receive guidance in the safe use of cleaning agents, in line with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health principles. This includes reading and following product instructions, never mixing chemicals, using appropriate personal protective equipment and ensuring adequate ventilation during use. Chemicals are only stored and transported in properly labelled containers.
Equipment and Electrical Safety
The company ensures that all cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor machines, steam cleaners and other powered tools, is suitable for its intended use and maintained in a safe condition. Equipment is inspected regularly and taken out of service if found to be defective.
Employees are trained to check equipment before use, to report faults immediately and to use only authorised equipment. When working in client premises, staff take care with cables, plugs and sockets to avoid trip and electrical hazards, and do not tamper with fixed electrical installations.
Personal Protective Equipment
Personal protective equipment is provided where risks cannot be adequately controlled by other means. This may include items such as gloves, masks, aprons, eye protection or non-slip footwear, depending on the nature of the cleaning task and the environment.
Staff are required to use the protective equipment supplied in accordance with training and instructions, to keep it in good condition and to report any damage or defects so that it can be repaired or replaced promptly.
Manual Handling and Work at Height
Many cleaning tasks involve lifting, carrying or moving items and equipment. Cleaners Kensington provides training in safe manual handling techniques to reduce the risk of strains, sprains and other musculoskeletal injuries. Wherever possible, heavy loads are broken down, shared or mechanised to minimise physical effort.
Work at height, such as using steps or small ladders, is restricted to suitable equipment and straightforward tasks. Staff must ensure that any steps or ladders are stable, used on level surfaces and not overreached from. More complex high-level work is only undertaken using appropriate methods and by staff who are competent and authorised.
Infection Control and Hygiene
We recognise the importance of infection prevention in all cleaning environments. Cleaners Kensington promotes high standards of hygiene, including regular handwashing, appropriate use of gloves and safe handling of waste. Particular care is taken when dealing with bathrooms, kitchens, waste bins and any area where contamination is possible.
Where required, staff follow enhanced cleaning and disinfection procedures, especially in high-contact areas. Any suspected biohazard or bodily fluid is treated with caution and managed in line with company procedures.
Accidents, Incidents and Near Misses
All accidents, incidents and near misses occurring during work activities must be reported promptly to management. Cleaners Kensington investigates these events to identify root causes and introduce measures to prevent recurrence.
Records of incidents are kept and reviewed regularly to monitor trends and evaluate the effectiveness of our health and safety arrangements.
Training, Information and Supervision
We provide initial and ongoing health and safety training to ensure that our staff are competent to carry out their duties safely. Training may cover general induction, safe use of equipment and chemicals, manual handling, work at height, emergency procedures and other relevant topics.
Supervision is provided in proportion to the level of risk and the experience of the employee. Instructions and safety information are communicated clearly and updated whenever there are changes to work methods or equipment.
Continuous Improvement and Policy Review
Cleaners Kensington is committed to continuous improvement in health and safety performance. We regularly review our procedures, taking into account feedback from staff and clients, incident reports, new guidance and changes in our services.
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed periodically to ensure that it remains relevant, effective and aligned with current best practice in professional cleaning. All employees are expected to cooperate fully with the implementation of this policy and to contribute actively to creating and maintaining safe working conditions.
